Virgínia Leone Bicudo, a black woman from São Paulo born in 1910, was a very active character in the field of health education, social sciences, and psychoanalysis. Her master's dissertation, Study of Racial Attitudes of Blacks and Mulattos in São Paulo (1940), was the first work about race relations defended at a Brazilian university. Bicudo was also the first Black woman in Brazil who got a graduate degree, one of the first Black Professors, the founder of the first psychoanalytical center in Latin America, and the first non-medical psychoanalyst in Brazil and Latin America. Her research had an innovative character since it showed that there is color prejudice independent of class prejudice, contrary to what was believed at the time.
